Nazar Boncugu or Blue Glass Evil Eye Bead Amulet.

This thousands of years old talisman continues to fight against the evil eye all over the world.

In Turkey, wherever you look, you'll meet plenty of eyes looking at you. It is common in the Turkish culture to give a gift of a " Blue Glass Nazar Boncugu ( bonjouk ) " or " Evil Eye Bead " as it is more widely known.

People hang a small evil eye amulet from the rear view mirror of their car, keep several small evil eye beads or charms on hand to give to guests, hang an evil eye near their door in the home or office.

Glass evil eyes are worn, in the form of jewelry; evil eye bracelets, evil eye necklaces, evil eye anklets, gold or silver evil eye charms and pendants, blue evil eye talismans, evil eye earrings - rings and plenty of evil eye ethnic jewelry sets. Here it is a real evil eye bead paradise.

It gives protection and brings luck to all.

With its warm blue, the shine it has derived from the fire and the smiling face that's a typical feature of the Anatolian people, it gives happiness to the friends and the beloved ones.

The Reflections of an Ancient Anatolian Belief on Glass : Nazar Boncugu

Throughout the whole human history, in every culture and religion, the eye figure has been considered as a powerful talisman to defy evil forces. Blue evil eye beads of Turkey - Nazar Boncugu say " Mash allah " - " God has willed it ".

Belief in the evil eyes is strongest in the Middle East, South Asia and Europe, especially the Mediterranean region; it has also spread to other areas, including northern Europe, particularly in the Celtic regions, and the Americas, where it was brought by European colonists and Middle Eastern immigrants.

Wednesday October 14th. The best night of my life!
What could be better than a night full of filming, music, and your favourite celebrities? For me, nothing, and this night was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
It all started two weeks ago. The stars of Camp Rock tell us that we can apply to be extras in the movie. My awesome friend, Minha, and I, struggle to get in. Believe me, it was NOT easy. Two weeks of stress, anxiousness and confusion is definitely not good AT ALL, but after all of our hard work, we got a confirmation to go the filming of the movie and be in it!
At about 4:30, we started driving to the location of their offices. As soon as we got there, we had to give in our forms, put on our wristbands (which I have kept as a souvenir ) and then take a bus all the way to the filming location. Once we were there, they put us in a tent with the other extras and gave us this awesome snack box provided by Kellogs. Strangest dinner I’ve ever had! After freezing in that tent for like an hour or something, they told us it was time to go to set. We followed the people into the amphitheatre, and it all begun…
Okay, so the amphitheatre was AWESOME. It was pitch black and you could see the stars in the sky, the lights were so cool and they had these two screens that were playing some behind the scenes of the movie. I can’t tell you anything about what we actually filmed, as far as the story goes, but I’ll tell you that this movie is probably going to be great!!
Anyways, when we got our seats, we were in the DIRECT center, a little far back. We weren’t in the direct front but I LOVED my seat because I was RIGHT BEHIND THE CAMERA! Also, the camera on the crane would go RIGHT above our heads. Being the directing obsessed person I am, I took more attention to the cameras and filming guys instead of the fact that Kevin and Frankie Jonas, as well as some of the dancers, were already on stage. Kevin kept drinking his starbucks (lol) and Frankie was really cute. Eventually, we started recognizing more people. I saw Alyson Stoner, Roshon, Shorty (this dancer who is amazing!) Anna Maria and Jasmine. I also saw one more person and recognized her instantly. My idol from over a year and half ago, COURTNEY GALIANO !!! She was one of the finalists on So You Think You Can Dance Season 4, and I’ve been in love with her ever since. As soon as I found out she was a choreographer and dance teacher and dancer in this movie, I freaked. As soon as I found out she was a close friend of Demi and the Jonas Brothers, I also freaked. So when I saw her on stage I was sooo happy!
Anyways, after a little while, the director started telling us what we were going to do. Then finally, DEMI, JOE AND NICK CAME OUT! It was INCREDIBLE to see them all UP CLOSE! All of them were freezing in their coats haha, and so were we, but we had to take them off for the scene we were shooting.
Now, let me tell you, we got the BEST POSSIBLE SCENE EVER! Not some stupid dance number or like Tess and her mean girls thing. We got the one of the numbers in the FINALE! The song was SOOOO good!
Basically, this is how it went down. Joe and Demi started going up the stairs, and everyone was like OMGGGG and then Demi went one way and Joe went the other, to opposite ends of the stage. JOE CAME TO OUR SIDE! Joe was RIIIIGHT in front of me! Like, not even a meter away. Honestly, I could see the details on his hair perfectly. He gave us a wave too! Demi was sooo sweet on her side too. My mom was sitting in that side, and she got the perfect view of Demi the whole time. I was pretty jealous because Demi started hugging the people and signing autographs (Joe seemed either cold, tired, or grumpy. He didn’t really pay that much attention, or Demi is just way too nice). The director yelled my FAVORITE words, “aaand action!” and it all started!
So this is what I can tell you of the scene. It starts out with Joe and Demi singing to eachother, alone, in this really pretty melody (god their voices give me chills!) and then basically it turns into a group number with ALL of the cast and dancers. Since Joe was RIGHT in front of us, I’m pretty sure we got CAUGHT ON THE FILM! So I bet you can see us in the movie! Joe and Demi’s chemistry was great (as always) and the number was sooo cool! I really was glad we got this scene!
After that, they ran the scene a few more times. I was having a blast!
Next, they wanted to film another scene, which I really can’t explain without giving it away, so I won’t tell you. It was really awesome though!
Okay, so then the most amazing thing happened. They switched us over to the FRONT SEATS! So we were RIGHT up close!!! They did the same number a few more times, and this time we got to see Demi and Joe right in the front close to us, and all the dancers! I actually still have the song stuck in my head haha! What’s so awesome is that they filmed ONLY ou

Galapagos Sealions on Espanola Island

Galapagos Sea Lion
The Galapagos Sea Lion (Zalophus wollebaeki) breeds on the Galapagos Islands and – in smaller numbers – on Isla de la Plata (to Ecuador). Being fairly social, and one of the most numerous species in the Galapagos archipelago, they are often spotted sun-bathing on sandy shores or rock groups or gliding gracefully through the surf. Their loud “bark”, playful nature, and graceful agility in water make them the “welcoming party” of the islands. They are lightly smaller than their Californian relatives, Galapagos Sea Lions range from 150 to 250 cm in length and weigh between 50 to 400 kg, with the males much larger than females. Adult males also tend to have a thicker, more robust neck, chest, and shoulders in comparison to their slender abdomen. Females are somewhat opposite males with a longer, more slender neck and thick torso. Once sexually mature, a male’s sagittal crest enlarges, forming a small, characteristic bump-like projection on their forehead. Galapagos Sea Lions, compared to California sea lions, have a slightly smaller sagittal crest and a shorter muzzle. Adult females and juveniles lack this physical characteristic altogether with a nearly flat head and little or no forehead. Both male and female sea lions have a pointy, whiskered nose and somewhat long, narrow muzzle. The young pups are almost dog-like in profile. Another characteristic that defines the sea lion are their external ear-like pinnae flaps which distinguish them from their close relative in which they are often confused with, the seal. The fore-flippers have a short fur extending from the wrist to the middle of the dorsal fin surface, but other than that, the flippers are covered in black, leathery skin. Although somewhat clumsy on land with their flippers, sea lions are amazingly agile in water. With their streamline bodies and flipper-like feet, they easily propel themselves through crashing surf and dangerously sharp coastal rocks. They also have the ability to control their flippers independently and thus change directions with ease and have more control over their body on land. When wet, sea lions are a shade of dark brown, but once dry, their color varies greatly. The females tend to be a lighter shade than the males and the pups a chestnut brown. Born with a longer, brownish-black lanugo, a pup's coat gradually fades to brown within the first five months of life. At this time, they undergo their first molt resulting in their adult coat. Feeding mostly on sardines, Galapagos Sea Lions sometimes travel ten to fifteen kilometers from the coast over the span of days to hunt for their prey. This is when they come into contact with their biggest predators: sharks and killer whales. Injuries and scars from attacks are often visible. Galapagos Sea Lions are especially vulnerable to human activity. Their inquisitive and social nature makes them more likely to approach areas inhabited by humans, and thus come into contact with human waste, fishing nets, and hooks. They occupy many different shoreline types from steep, rocky cliff sides to low-lying sandy beaches. To avoid overheating during the day, sea lions will take refuge from the sun under vegetation, rocks, and cliffs, and wade into tidal pools. Not only are sea lions social, they are also quite vocal. Adult male Galapagos Sea Lions often bark in long, repeated sequences that are loud and distinctive. Females and juveniles do not produce this repetitive bark, but both sexes and the younger pups will growl. From birth, a mother sea lion recognizes her pup’s distinct bark and can pin point it from a crowd of thirty or more barking sea lions. On land, sea lions form colonies at their hauling-out areas. Adult males known as Bulls are the head of the Colony, growing up to 7 ft (2 m) long and weighing up to 800 lb (363 kg). As males grow larger, they fight to win dominance of a harem of between 5 and 25 cows and the surrounding territory. Swimming from border to border of his colony, the dominant bull jealously defends his coastline against all other adult males. While patrolling his area, he frequently rears his head out of the water and barks, as an indication of his territorial ownership. The average dominant bull holds his territory for only a few months, until he is challenged by another male. On land, these fights start by stretching out the neck and barking in attempt to test each other’s bravery. If this isn’t enough to scare the opponent off, they begin pushing each other and biting around the neck area. If males weren’t equipped with a thick, muscular neck, their vital organs would be easily damaged during these fights. Blood, is often drawn, however, and many male sea lions have battle scars due to these territorial competitions. Losers are dramatically chased far from their territory by the new dominant bull with much splashing. Because there is only one male in each harem, there is always a surplus of “bac

Today we hit for Lake Cowichan to pickup a photocopy of a Kaatza Museum & Archive's map #98472.2; Island Map & Blueprint Lake Cowichan map. (original ink-on-canvas). This chart is a marvelous resource for those sleuthing out the old railway lines as they crossed each other in the heart of the Village of Lake Cowichan. Using this map, we were able to find what's left of the CNR railline beyond North Shore Road near the village. Within the boundaries of lake Cowichan Village, the right-of-way (ROW) has been obliterated by house construcion, but beyond the western boundary, there is an access trail -- on the north side of North Shaore Road -- which leads to the old CNR ROW between Lake Cowichan and Youbou. I believe the last freight-train passed here in 1985. we walked the ROW eastbound until reaching the trail's end at a new house and log roadblock. We have a picture-to-prove it. We then walked it westbound for approximately one-kilometre. The trail is in great shape in this, the dry season, and it's hoped we can cycle it westbound soon to see how far it can be travelled at his time.

On the drive up island, we stopped at the Duncan E&N station to watch the dayliner arrive at 9:35a.m. The Cowichan Valley Museum (located in duncan Station) opened at ten o'clock so I dropped off a DVD for Kathryn; she was busy with clients, already, so we missed seeing her. We Walked the streets of Duncan and looked for the new railtrail reportedly connecting the city with the Duncan Commons shopping centre. What a great addition this mall is! We even bought some stuff at Cambodian Tire Store (bro's name for Canadian Tire).

It should go without saying, my interest in this new commuter trail is its ability to connect hikers and cyclists between the Cowichan Valley Trail (CVT) at Lane Road with the Tidewater Subdivision railtrail at Koksilah Road. This link completes a 60km loop from Lake Cowichan to Duncan and return to Lake Cowichan. One will be able to cycle 26km eastbound from L.Cowichan on the CVT to Hayward Junction (near Duncan Commons), then cycle southbound approximately 8km on the E&N railtrail to get onto Tidewater Sub railtrail near Miller Road (Miller Rd crossing is at Mile-38 on the E&N line). From here, one cycles 7km northwesterly to join the CNR Mainline -- now the Trans Canada Trail (TCT) -- 2km east of Glenora Staging Area (GSA). Once at GSA, it's another 20km westbound to L.Cowichan village. What a great cycle-circle!

NASCAR - The beer man

NASCAR - The beer man

August 4 2007, fans watch in total disbelief Canada's Patrick Carpentier of Zellers & Komatsu/Dodge (#22) spinning out of control at the hairpin during the historical final round at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the premiere NASCAR Busch Series in Montreal, Canada. (Photo Dimitri Papadopoulos/

PHOTOGRAPHER'S NOTE: With a few laps remaining to the end of this historical race, and exhausted by walking the track's backwoods, I decided to go up the Grandstand and snap an Overview photo. While climbing the stairs, facing the crowd with my back towards the track, I suddenly noticed the crowd making weird expressions, as if the sky just fell on them. I immediately sensed that something bad is occurring behind my back on the track. In a quick reflex, and without looking in the camera's viewfinder, I turned the camera towards the track and released the shutter. (this explains why the horizon is slightly angled) Carpentier's Car was spinning out of control! Oh my Lord! (what I just described in this paragraph occurred in a fraction of a second)

THE BEER MAN: The guy you see to the right of the frame with cowboy hat, was holding a tray and selling cold beer. He was also going up the stairs right behind me. Its a good thing he "was on my frame" as the background behind him totally sucks. Behind him, you have essentially a park full of trailers, tires, junk and what have you. Although I didn't buy beer from him, next time I see him I will, and I will take the opportunity to thank him for "covering up" the background and adding a "human factor" to the frame, making it more interesting! The presence of this beer man is very welcome and extremely desirable.

Psychologically, the "beer man" also serves as a guide to direct the viewer to look where the action is. It makes you naturally look where HE looks. I believe this is one prefect example of the 'human factor effect' in a photo. His absence would certainly rendered this photo unusable.
